Case Study: Ahmad Hisham

AESSEAL® PLC

What apprenticeships do you do?

My name is Ahmad and I am studying a Level 2 Sales Apprenticeship at AESSEAL®.

What is the best thing about your apprenticeship?

There are quite a few things that are great about my apprenticeship, to be fair. I’ll say that Sales Apprenticeships aren’t a very common apprenticeship so it was difficult to find one that was what I wanted. Now that I’m here, I think it’s great to be able to talk about how great the company is and what they’re doing to support me. I class myself as very lucky to be able to have found an apprenticeship like this here.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship with AESSEAL®?

Earlier this year, I was looking for an apprenticeship but I was looking at Business Administration ones rather than Sales. I had applied for some through The Source and their Learner Engagement team called me about this job before it went live on the website because they thought it would be something I wanted. I applied for the role and then came to the Open Event AESSEAL® held so that I could have a look round the company.

I wanted to do something in business as I believe it’s possible to work yourself up through the company you work in. I didn’t want to do A Levels because when you’re in the classroom, they tell you about ‘business’ but all businesses are different. I wanted to learn about business through working in one, get experience at an earlier stage.

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

I’ve been in my apprenticeship for 3 months, so my workload will change and increase as I continue my apprenticeship. At the moment, when enquiries come through the website I pass these on to the right area division, so if an enquiry comes through from India, I pass it onto the sales person who looks after accounts in India. To be able to do the Sales role, I need to know about the products the company produces. Currently, I create presentations about products which are used by the sales team when they go to see customers. This helps me learn about the products. In the next few weeks, I’m hoping to move onto inputting information into databases.

The apprenticeship isn’t what I was expecting, but in a good way. It’s better than I thought it would be.
