No.26 Makers Emporium is an exciting retail space showcasing handmade products by local crafters, designers and artists. It is run by Rotherham apprentices working towards their retail qualifications with The Source.

The store is a partnership between Rotherham Council, The Source and Rotherham Youth Enterprise which opened in April 2014.

Since opening, the Makers Emporium has supported 122 local businesses and its apprentices have gone on to win awards, including the Rotherham Retail Awards Rising Star 2015.

Currently there are more than 50 different makers populating the shop with an array of unique products including jewellery, home-ware, clothing, accessories, gifts, textiles, artwork and much more!

The Bright Lights Starting Out in Retail programme was a great entry point for those working towards a career in retail.

The five-week training programme combined classroom coaching with a work placement at one of our top retail, leisure or food and beverage brands across the UK, in British Land premises such as Meadowhall, Ealing Broadway, Teeside Park, Serpentine Green and many more.

Here’s how we helped our learners shine:

- Practical skills and valuable on-the-job experience.
- Coaching by industry experts from The Source Skills Academy.
- Qualifications in retail, customer service, and health & safety.
- Personal mentoring for 6 months.
- Professional CV building and increased confidence.

60% of learners who completed this course went on to work in retail immediately after completion, with those not securing permanent employment being offered extra support to help them find their ideal role.
