Knowhow Apprentices Enter the Lion's Lair

Authored on 18 Jul 2018

Apprentices working at Team Knowhow have put their business ideas to the test at a ‘The Apprentice’ -style Lion’s Lair day.

Throughout Friday 6th July, eight teams of apprentices from all departments of the company presented business cases to improve efficiency in their areas to a panel of four judges.

The apprentices have spent months researching and compiling information for their ideas before taking it to the Lions. The teams worked with tutors from the Source Academy and spent time with subject specialists within Team Knowhow to make sure key areas, such as stakeholders, costings, and return investment were considered in their pitch.

During their presentations, they were marked based on the strength of their ideas, how they worked as a team, and how they responded to questions from the panel. They were also given points for incorporating wildcard items into their presentations – items such as balloons, post-it notes, plasters and even an inflatable mic.

Franca Kelly, Work Based Learning Team Leader from the Source, said: “The presentations for the Lions Lair are a great way for the apprentices to show how much they have learnt so far in their studies and provides them with the experience of speaking publicly about ideas they want to put forward. It’s a real skill and all the teams have done brilliantly.”

The teams were grouped depending on what apprenticeship they are enrolled on, with teams ranging from technical, sales, and customer service departments.

Matt Sadler, Training Manager at Team Knowhow, said: “The apprentices have worked really hard to produce these ideas and validate why they should be incorporated into the company.

“As much as we wanted this to be a great learning experience for them, we also added the wildcard items to make it fun for the students. It’s allowed them to be creative and made them think outside the box.

“They’ve all done an amazing job and they’ve made it as difficult as possible for the Lions to decide on a winner.”

The winning team will be announced at the celebration event on 19th July 2018 where they will receive a cash prize.
