Following the change in legislation, in the Autumn of 2016 it will be compulsory for all new nursery and preschool staff to undertake paediatric first aid training. This Ofqual Accredited Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid meets these requirements. This course also meets Ofsted requirements for registered childminders and the requirements under the Approved Carers Scheme.
This course is QCF recognised and can also be used as evidence for employees working towards a Level 1 or 2 NVQ in Childcare and Education.
Some topics covered are:
- The role of the paediatric first-aider
- Fractures, Sprains, dislocation
- Injuries to head, neck or back
- Burns or scalds
- Chronic medical conditions or sudden illness
This course now covers the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings.
This course is suitable for day nursery staff, nannies, teachers, parents and anyone working with children.
The course focuses on emergency scenarios that professionals and family members could face at any time when caring for children. Learners who successfully complete the course will be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt and effective first aid in emergency situations involving young children.
Assessment is carried out by practical and multiple choice assessments - A multiple choice assessment at the end of each day and practical assessments assessed by the course trainer.
Certification lasts for 3 years, learners need to retake the training to re-certificate.
